Globe and Mail Project: #20, FULL-BODY SCANNERS TO BE USED ON POLAR BEARS

(click on image to view lager version)
Scientists have been given the green light
to employ full-body scanners at northern
airports to monitor the diets of polar bears.
Airport security was quick to approve the
pilot project which would enable officers to
determine if the bears had eaten anyone who
posed a terrorist threat.
Today's collage is #20 of my daily 3 month long, Globe and Mail Project.

I always knew the bears were a threat. Thank g_d the government is finally doing the right thing to protect us. It's a good use of technology.

Now according to the wikipedia

..." The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is a bear native largely within the Arctic circle encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. It is the world's largest carnivore species found on land. It is also the largest bear, together with the omnivorous Kodiak bear which is approximately the same size.

From this description I cannot tell if ursus maritimus is omnivorous or not. Perhaps just carnivorous?

In addition, I would like to know why the scientists are running the body scans? Shouldn't they be handled by the professionals trained to do so, this being the airport security staff? I'd feel more secure with "security staff" than "scientist".

Just my 2 cents.

JD, your incisive comments are as refreshing as morning coffee.

Caesar, If the scientists and airport security can work together, perhaps they could employ the polar bear as part of the security team, say...sniffer bears? That might be an effective deterrent?
