Lumiere Festival 2010, Saturday, September 4!!!

September, already? Time for the Lumiere Festival 2010. Here is a sneak preview of what I've been working on for this year's Festival. As you can imagine, this will look quite different by candlelight. Helpful hint: consider how you will transport an art installation across the city BEFORE you start building. Fortunately, I have friends who were willing to lend me their truck (thanks!!!). I will also be installing my bike wheel chandeliers in the park again this year. If you've never been to this festival, you must check out the lanterns and performers that will populate Stanley Park along the Rideau River this Saturday!!!

Urban Art in Minto Park, Tomorrow!!!

After months of preparing, Urban Art in Minto Park is tomorrow. This is the 5th annual show and the second year that Katie and I have been the organizers. Things are chugging along, so as long as mother nature cooperates, we should have a fantastic day in Centretown.

I will have Mobius T-shirts at the show, as well as small collage work and cards, and I have made three sculptures to place around the park.

Come on down and check out the 60 or so dynamic artists and craftspeople that will be showing their work in this idyllic downtown park at Elgin and Gilmour st.

Urban Art @ Minto Park

Just over a week to go until Urban Art @ Minto Park and things are coming together nicely. We have a selection of over 60 local artists. Some are veterans of this 5th annual event (2nd that Katie and I have put together) and for some it will be their first show ever! We have several collectives and will have a booth for Ottawa School of Art Grads and a table for Lady Evelyn Alternative School, who will be selling hand-painted canvas shopping bags as a school fundraiser. Post an anonymous message at the Post-it Secrets booth, or leave your mark with a chalk drawing on the boulevard of this beautiful downtown Ottawa park.

The Stone Book at the 2010 Wakefield Piggyback Fringe Festival

In conjunction with 2wp and the Stone Book performance by Jan Andrews at the 2010 Wakefield Piggyback Fringe Festival, Ottawa artists Timothy Hunt and Annette Hegel will facilitate the audience interactive construction of freestanding stone sculptures at the Molo Café and the Wakefield Farmer’s market on Saturday, June 26th between 11am and 2pm.

Timothy Hunt @ Dovercourt Community Centre June 1st - June 30th, 2010

This month, local artist Timothy Hunt presents a selection of 18 collages from the Globe and Mail Project. Acting on a free three month subscription from Canada’s National Newspaper and armed with only a pair of scissors, a typewriter and a gluestick, Tim embarked on a 90 day marathon of humorous collages using clippings from each day’s newspaper spanning topics including sports, religion and politics. The results are... well, you be the judge! The entire collection of the Globe and Mail Project can be viewed at timothyhunt.blogspot.com.

Timothy Hunt is an artist and Sculptor living in Westboro. He has participated in numerous shows across Canada with his company Mobius T-shirts and his artwork has been seen around Ottawa at the GCTC and many Art in the Park events. His “bicycle wheel chandeliers” were a big hit at last year’s Lumiere Festival in New Edinburg’s Stanley Park. Tim is also co-organizer for Urban Art in Minto Park, a juried Art and Craft event in downtown Ottawa, Sat July 24th. If something is not nailed down, it may well find its way into Tim’s artwork and he has been know to run with scissors.

Submission to C4 Gallery

This is my submission for the C4 Gallery, a mobile gallery that houses each work in a small drawer. My piece is a mini globe of my community. Because of its shape, the ball will revolve when the drawer is opened revealing different viewpoints and reflecting the changes taking place in the landscape.

From the City of Ottawa Website:

The C4 Gallery is a one-of-a-kind mobile cabinet that will travel to community centres across Ottawa for two-month exhibits. The cabinet’s 24 drawers have been specially designed to display small pieces of art submitted by a wide range of artistic talents, from emerging to professional artists. Every two months, the C4 Gallery will be moved to a different community centre with a new set of thought-provoking art pieces tucked inside its drawers. Artwork currently on display is swapped with the incoming art, so that each contributing artist is presented with a piece of art in exchange for his submission to the gallery.
